Traveling this Summer? Do These Three Things Before Hitting the Road

It's summertime, which means school is out, the kids are getting fidgety, and you need to show them a good time. If your annual family vacation is coming up, you need to make sure you're ready for anything. The roads around North Kingstown and Providence are unpredictable, and the escalating temperatures have the potential to create big problems if you aren't prepared.

1.) Top Off Your Coolant

Keeping your engine cool is probably the biggest challenge that many regional drivers face, particularly if you've got a high mileage count on the odometer. It's important to periodically pop your hood and make sure your coolant is at the proper levels and then top it off if need be.

2.) Inspect Your Tires and Keep Them Inflated

You can't go anywhere with a vehicle that has less than four working tires, so it's important to make sure yours are in good condition before setting out. Check to make sure the tread isn't worn and that you're at the proper PSI. Falter on either of these, and you're at serious risk of a blowout.

3.) Check the Integrity of Your Serpentine Belt

The changing of the seasons can have just as much an effect on your vehicle as general wear and tear. The serpentine belt is one component many drivers don't check, but it's quite simple. All you have to do is pop the hood and look just to the side or in front of the engine bay. Check the belt to make sure that cracks haven't appeared in the belt. If they have, it's important to get it changed out as soon as possible. And if it's still in good condition, you can improve its lifespan by spraying some WD40 on it to keep it lubricated.

If you suspect anything is wrong with your vehicle, we encourage you to bring it into our dealership for service as soon as possible. Small problems can quickly escalate into expensive jobs, so it's important that you don't procrastinate.
